Chevy contracted with Choo Choo Customs of Chattanooga, Tennessee to build these performance-oriented trucks. Many companies did this with special edition vehicles in the 1980's, partnering with coachbuilders like ASC (American Sunroof Company), Centurion, Callaway, and Choo Choo Customs, among others to create unique vehicles that could be ordered straight from the dealership. This 1984 example sports a powerful 350C.I. V8 engine fitted with Mickey Thompson finned valve covers, an aluminum Edlebrock RPM Air Gap intake, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, headers, and is mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission for a fun and reliable drivetrain combination. Other features of this rad El Camino include dual sport mirrors, factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, Rally wheels, and a bed cover. Being an SS model, this one still has it's recertification sticker from Choo Choo Customs and features the more aerodynamic front end of the Monte Carlo SS, as well as being fitted with the factory Superlift air shock system. Mr. Sturtz was chosen to take part in the Winston "No Bull 5" program sponsored by R.J. Reynolds. This program paired 5 lucky race fans whose tickets were drawn to compete in a skeet shooting competition to be paired with a race driver. If the driver they were paired with won on race day, both the driver and the fan would win $1,000,000. Richard Sturtz was a Dale Earnhardt fan since 1980, and was floored when his outcome in the competition paired him with his favorite driver. Race day came at Talladega and team owner Richard Childress came to Dale and Richard and told them "You two are going to win a lot of money." The race would become known as one of Dale Earnhardt's most incredible wins ever, and what would turn out to be his last. The day after the race, Dale called Richard and asked what he planned on doing with all of the money. Richard mentioned buying a special Dale Earnhardt edition Silverado as a way of remembering the amazing time they had, and his connection to Dale. Richard made the arrangements for his truck with Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet of Newton, NC. Two weeks later, Dale invited Richard and his wife to Dale Earnhardt Inc. to have lunch with the Earnhardt family and to see his new truck.
