While General Motors thought they were prepared with the Corvair Monza, Chrysler didn't have anything they considered sporty enough to compete with this newcomer, but they had the Valiant. Chrysler designers took the Plymouth Valiant design and tweaked it into a graceful two-door fastback that sported the largest single piece of glass ever fitted to a normal production car at the time. The Barracuda was born, named after one of the most feared vicious fish in the world. The Barracuda was successfully introduced for the 1964 model year and beat the Mustang to market by two weeks. Of course, we all know the story of the Mustang and it's success, but the Barracuda offered a unique experience for those that wanted something a little different. That's right, this factory drag racing beast still houses the 440C.I. high-performance 6-barrel V8 engine and heavy duty A833 4-speed manual transmission it left the factory with in 1969. The transmission is topped with a Hurst shifter with a wood knob that sits at just the right height, and feels perfect in the hand. Even the Sure Grip 4.10 ratio heavy duty Dana 60 rear axle looks to be correct. But the greatness of this car doesn't stop there, this car also comes with its original broadcast sheet which denotes all of its options and features from the factory as well as its original owner's manual. Our in-house Mopar specialist has done a complete decode of the build sheet codes, fender tag codes, engine numbers, and transmission numbers, of which premium printed versions will be included with the vehicle. The body panels look to be correct and original. The undercarriage is exceptionally clean and the rocker panels and spot welds look as smooth as the day they left the factory.
