The Pontiac GTO was already a car with massive performance numbers and a strong following set up by John DeLorean and Pontiac's genius marketing strategies, but The Judge took it to a whole new level. This very special model was based on a character from Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In that was usually played by star Sammy Davis Jr. who was a regular on the show. The skit was a huge hit with Sammy Davis Jr.'s comedic genius, and the outrageous nature of the skit and the show led to GM creating the equally outrageous and captivating GTO The Judge. This Judge is powered by an era correct 400C.I. V8 engine inhaling through a Ram Air III intake system and exhaling through a custom Pypes exhaust system. The transmission has been upgraded to a more modern 200-4R automatic. Other upgrades include QA1 adjustable coilovers, a rebuilt factory air conditioning system that blows ice cold, and larger 17” classic-look PMD Rallye wheels. He took it from being an “old lady” brand to being one of the most well-known high-performance manufacturers of it's day, and the car that helped achieve that was the legendary G.T.O. It also launched one of the greatest advertising campaigns of all time with the famous “Tiger” ads. Those advertisements came coupled with similar efforts from U.S. Royal (Uniroyal) with their new “Tiger Paw” tires coming as standard equipment on G.T.O.s, and Esso giving out faux tiger tails along with their “Tiger in Your Tank” ads. The G.T.O. was an absolute hit and an instant classic. It would forever be a legend in the automotive world. This G.T.O. sports the 389C.I. V8 engine with Tri-Power induction matched to a 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter. It also sports power steering, factory tachometer, and beautiful original style steel wheels with chrome center and lip, wrapped in new Coker redline tires. The exterior is finished in Mayfair Maize, the color that was often seen sported in those same G.T.O. “Tiger” ads. Inside you'll find black vinyl bucket seats separated by a center console. The GTO was one of Pontiacs biggest hits, and you could say that it came down to great marketing with the song, the controversial tiger advertisements, Esso's tiger tails, and US Royal's Tiger Paw tires, but we all know it was because the car was just so good! The GTO was created by John DeLorean with hesitant approval from GM executives, but was an instant hit and is considered by many to be the first muscle car. This 1965 example has been extremely well restored and sports some unique features. Under the hood sits a ferocious rebuilt 389C.I. V8 engine that is believed to be original and has been upgraded to a Tri-Power induction system with Rochester carburetors for some extra get-up-and-go! That powerplant is mated to a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.23 Safe-T-Track rear axle to put that power to the pavement.
