Under the hood of this rare piece of American automotive history is its numbers matching 455C.I. V8 engine equipped with the correct “D” heads. That marvelous motor is connected to a strong Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission with the famous Hurst “His & Hers” shifter for manually rowing through the gears of the venerable automatic, and a 3.23 Positraction rear axle to help put all the power to the pavement. Features of this 1969 Hurst include power front disc brakes, power steering, the correct ram-air system with correct fiberglass “mailbox” style hood scoops, and the correct fiberglass rear wing. With the advent of the muscle car era American Motors was not going to be passed up by the competition so they began to market to a more youthful segment of buyers. They began in 1966 with V8 power and quickly blossomed with performance car models: SC/Rambler, Rebel Machine and AMX through out the decade. V8 was born and included 11:1 compression, forged pistons, forged crankshaft, forged connecting rods, solid lifters, and a dual plane intake topped with a Holley carburetor. It was built to compete with cars like the Mustang Boss 302 and the Trans Am Javelins of it's day.
