It started in 1950 as an order from the U.S. government needing 100 vehicles for the Korean War effort based on the specifications set by Willys. The U.S. tasked Toyota with manufacturing the vehicles, and by 1951 Toyota had the Toyota “Jeep” BJ prototype ready. The prototype was the first vehicle ever to climb to the sixth stage of Mount Fuji. The Japanese National Police place an order for nearly 300 after witnessing the feat. The Toyota FJ40 carried on that extremely impressive off-road ability and ended up being the longest running and most iconic generation of the Land Cruiser. With a total production run spanning from 1960-2001, there's no doubt that this vehicle has had an important role in automotive history.
