Chrysler designers took the Plymouth Valiant design and tweaked it into a graceful two-door fastback that sported the largest single piece of glass ever fitted to a normal production car at the time. The Barracuda was born, named after one of the most feared vicious fish in the world. The Barracuda was successfully introduced for the 1964 model year and beat the Mustang to market by two weeks. As you can see the vehicle is highly modernized for daily driving.The 1964 Galaxie 500 XL convertible is fully integrated with a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor floor, frame, suspension, brakes, motor, transmission and rear end. The Crown Victoria body was completely removed from its frame. The frame was media blasted and painted black. Power is a 4.6 Liter SOHC Police Interceptor V8 that has been tuned and new coil packs and belts were replaced during the restoration. Some mild modification such as a narrowed rear axle, narrowed front end, new center filled gas tank were performed during the restoration. The body is very straight and the car was disassembled with all of the glass out when the car and trim off when the car was painted. The car was painted Mercedes Benz tan and was wet sanded and buffed. Then for the final stage of the paint it was ceramic coated. The previous owner who had the car built enjoyed the car a lot and drove it 25,464 miles in the last three years. The 770 is named for it's ability to achieve 7 knots in the water and 70mph on land. Everything is kept dry with special extra seals and a bilge pump to ensure your Amphicar is kept afloat. The interior is covered in white and grey vinyl that accents the maroon exterior very nicely, as does the white convertible top and glittering chromework. Perhaps the best Amphicar story comes by way of President Lyndon B. Johnson, who kept his Amphicar at his ranch in Texas and would give tours to advisors and friends in his 770. Often, President Johnson would act as if the brakes had malfunctioned as he barreled the car towards a small lake, his guests would begin to panic until they realized they were still dry and the car had leveled out on the water.
